Oy, the last time I had a puppy, it was a temporary gig while I fostered it on the way from birth home to forever home... I swore off puppies for myself a long time ago because I just can't stand that stage and the adorableness isn't quite enough to make up for it to me... when we decided on a family dog, we went to the local rescue and walked dogs on our free days for a few months until we met the most perfect dog for us... unfortunately, she was on a stray hold so not available for adoption at that time... we still got our application in and as soon as she was available, we were able to get her... we still had about 2-3 weeks of adjustment period, but she was already house trained, past teething, eager to please, and learned quickly what she was allowed to chew on (her toys) and what she wasn't (kiddo's toys).
Aww, that's awesome that you found your perfect doggie! I had told my husband I never wanted to do a puppy again because we'd been through it before, but because of my son's significant allergies, even with a year of shots, we couldn't do a breed that had shedding hair. And finding a "hypoallergenic" grown dog from a shelter proved challenging because those breeds tend to be so popular. So here we are. Things are getting a little better each day but I'm definitely looking forward to getting to the dog phase and out of the puppy phase.
Lucky you and lucky Leonard. Yep, you are in it for a while. Love the drool, the yipping, the where's my momma...and know in the end it's all worth it! Our Kelsey is a 15 year old poodle (I got her in the marriage :) ) and every day we wish she was a puppy...snuggle and laugh and enjoy...sleep will come! hugs!!
OMG! He is so cute and I love that you named him after that Leonard. We love BBT too!
I remember those puppy days, the sharp teeth and the whining. But those too will pass. Remember, you are his world. He lives for you and the family. Have lots of okay things for him to chew and play with around him. Praise him when he does good. It all pays off. We have an 11 year old golden and while he gave us plenty of ripped shirts as a puppy, he is my shadow, my buddy, my everything. Pets add so much to our lives. I hope your kiddo continues to be able to keep Leonard. Proud of him for enduring those allergy shots. They are not fun.
Happy New Year to you and the family. Enjoy the snuggles and cuddles Leonard gives you. I hope he and your kiddo bond together and become forever friends. Good luck! Exciting times.
